Food Pantry

Sometimes life is tough.

Food pantries help families free up money for other bills. They help senior citizens and those on disability stretch their checks for the month. Our food pantry strives to provide fresh vegetables, fruit, and meat so our guests can also maintain their health.

What We Do

We partner with Harvesters to provide a wide variety of food items including meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, and baked goods to those in our community who have need. We also provide household items, toiletries, children’s supplies, and food for people with restricted diets while supplies last.

How It Started

Over 50 years ago, Hobart & Marie Strickland worked with Pastor Larry C. Lott of Blue Hills Church to open a food pantry in the church at 5201 Paseo Blvd. in Kansas City, MO. The program expanded, and a separate entity, Blue Hills Family Life Center, was created to oversee the Pantry. Blue Hills Family Life Center partnered with Harvesters Food Bank to expand operations. After Hobart Strickland passed away, Marie Strickland began training Glenda Jones to take over the operations. In 2022, Glenda continued the tradition by training another dedicated, qualified volunteer from the pantry. Shadonna Robinson and Glenda Jones worked together through numerous transitions that year. The church changed names from Blue Hills Church to Consuming Fire Ministries and the Blue Hills Family Life Center was to be dissolved. After much discussion, the leadership decided LIFT Inc. would be best able to fulfill and expand the original goals of the pantry, which is to provide food to the hungry, clothes to the needy, and to care for the physical needs of those in our community who need a helping hand and a caring heart.
